After a year of research and preparation, the giant screen film JERUSALEM advanced into production with an unprecedented aerial shoot throughout Israel and the West Bank. Scheduled for worldwide release in 2013, the film will take audiences on a spectacular tour of the Holy Land and the city once believed to lie at the center of the world.
JERUSALEM is executive produced by Jake Eberts, who has financed, developed or produced some of the most celebrated films of all time, including Gandhi, Dances with Wolves, A River Runs Through It and Driving Miss Daisy. The film is produced by Taran Davies, George Duffield and Daniel Ferguson. All three have a prominent track record of success in creating engaging and groundbreaking documentaries. Taran conceived and produced the IMAX® film Journey to Mecca, as well as documentaries for PBS and the Sundance Channel including Afghan Stories. George's latest film, The End of The Line, launched a global environmental campaign to protect the world's oceans, and directly enabled the creation of the largest marine reserve in the world. Daniel, a former theology student, has worked as a writer and Line Producer on many IMAX® and 3D films, including Wired to Win: Surviving the Tour de France, and Lost Worlds: Life in the Balance. The team is also working closely with advisors and experts from each of the major monotheistic religions, as well as leading archeologists and historians.
Who Is Making This FilmNearly everyone approaches this crossroads of the world in a different way and with different expectations. The film seeks to do this in an inclusive way, across political, academic and religious lines. Through the unrivaled beauty and visceral nature of the IMAX® format, as well as special access to the Holy sites and little-known parts of the city, audiences will be inspired to reconsider their assumptions about this vital part of the world. Our goal is to enable everyone, whether knowledgeable or simply curious about Jerusalem to discover something new and exciting about the city.
Will There Be Footage Other Than AerialsWe began with aerials, because we knew this would be the greatest challenge. Now that we have over a 100 minutes of footage from the air, we plan to start ground filming in January 2012. Our current schedule has us filming during the winter, in the spring for Pesach (Passover) and Easter and the summer for Ramadan.
