Hamilton, ON: 2012 Orthodox Spirituality Series - Fr. Moses Berry

Dear Brethren and Friends:

I'm excited to be able to invite you to attend the 2012 Orthodox Spirituality Series.

This year, after years of effort, we are blessed to have Father Moses Berry - writer, priest, educator, and speaker - joining us on Saturday, March 24th, to speak on Ancient African Christianity: Heeding the Call of Christ (You can read his bio, below.)

Father Moses brings with him a profound message about communicating Christ and His Historic Church across cultures, a critical message for Canadians today, who live in the most multicultural country in the world, but in which Orthodox Christianity is usually confined to certain cultural circles.

We hope you can join us for this unique event, which includes three talks and question sessions with Father Moses, along with a Vespers service and Lenten Dinner.

You can register online at www.asna.ca.

Download the pdf pamphlet

Please set aside the date to hear this remarkable speaker, and take the time to register early, since the event is likely to sell out. God willing, hope to have you with us!

The Lord's blessing,

Father Geoffrey+

Father Moses Berry

An African American and former African Methodist Episcopal pastor, Father Moses researched the roots of Christianity in Africa, and discovered that the Orthodox Church has sustained a significant presence in Africa since the first century. Further studies led him to convert to Orthodoxy where he has been a pastor of various congregations for more than twenty years.

Father Moses’ great-grandmother Caroline was descended from a slave owned by the Boone family, and Father Moses is a direct descendent of Nathan Boone. After being set free, Caroline married William Berry and the two started a 40-acre home place where Father Moses and his family still live.

As founder and caretaker of the Ozarks Afro-American Heritage Museum, Father Moses has preserved a treasury of items chronicling the history of slavery in North America.

Father Moses is founder and president of the Brotherhood of St. Moses the Black, an Orthodox society whose mission is to bring the faith of Orthodox Christianity to people of African descent. He was a contributing writer of the book "An Unbroken Circle," and is co-publisher of "The Path to Confession."

The unique life story of Father Moses is currently the subject of a film in production, entitled “God’s Garden”. (www.Godsgardenthefilm.com)

He serves as rector of Theotokos “Unexpected Joy” Orthodox Church in Ask Grove, Missouri.
